multicultural communities

Our region’s diversity includes Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) workers, seasonal employees, new migrant families, refugee communities and international students. These groups contribute skills, culture and connection, enriching local economies and community life. At the same time, people from culturally diverse backgrounds may face barriers such as language, health literacy and navigating unfamiliar systems. CCQ partners with community organisations and providers to strengthen cultural responsiveness and ensure services are inclusive of everyone who calls our region home.

Country to Coast Queensland is investing $200,000 through the PHN Multicultural Access Program (MAP) for 2025–26 to improve health and wellbeing of PALM scheme workers in Bundaberg.

The Australian Government’s Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme supports regional workforce needs by creating employment opportunities for workers from nine Pacific Island nations and Timor-Leste.

Bundaberg is home to one of the largest PALM worker communities in CCQ. These workers make a valuable contribution to the local economy through unskilled and semi-skilled roles.

An open tender process closed on 29 September, applications are now closed and being evaluated.
