PrEP in Practice: The Role of Primary Care in HIV Prevention

Primary care clinicians play a vital role in Australia’s efforts to eliminate HIV transmission. This practical webinar, delivered in partnership with ACRRM and co-facilitated by FACRRM Dr Matt Ruhl and Dr Darren Russell, will equip GPs and Rural Generalists with the knowledge and confidence to incorporate HIV prevention into everyday practice through the appropriate use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Participants will explore the current epidemiology of HIV in Australia, review the range of HIV prevention strategies, and gain a practical understanding of available PrEP dosing options. The session will also focus on providing effective patient education, supporting informed decision-making, and implementing the Decision Making in PrEP tool to initiate and manage patients on PrEP in a primary care setting.
