Building gender-sensitive disaster resilience

Contract Details

Part of the Resilient CARE Program 2025 grants.

This project explores how disasters can intensify gender-based violence (GBV) through existing structural inequalities within the Bundaberg Regional Council area. It places particular focus on the experiences of women with disabilities and older women, who often face heightened risks during and after disasters.

In partnership with the Bundaberg Domestic and Family Violence Community Working Group, the research develops co-designed prevention-focused strategies that address the underlying structural drivers of GBV.

The outcome will be a community-owned five-year action plan that outlines practical steps for building gender-sensitive disaster resilience and fostering safer, more inclusive communities.
