New Caloundra Medicare Urgent Care Clinic set to open this week

Published: June 16 2026

Sunshine Coast residents at the southern end of the coast will have greater access to urgent care this week, with the region’s second Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Medicare UCC) set to open in Caloundra on 17 June 2026.

Located at Shop 1, 65 Pierce Drive, Little Mountain, the Caloundra Medicare UCC will offer walk-in care seven days a week, initially from 8am to 5pm, with extended hours expected to commence from mid-October 2026.

Funded by Country to Coast Queensland (CCQ) through the Australian Government’s PHN Program, the clinic will require no appointment or referral.

Senator for Queensland Corinne Mulholland visited the new Caloundra Medicare UCC today ahead of its opening to patients, following last week’s announcement by the Prime Minister and Senator Mulholland.

“At the last election, Labor promised to deliver a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic for Caloundra, and that is exactly what we are delivering for the local community,” Senator Mulholland said.

“This will be the second Medicare Urgent Care Clinic delivered by the Albanese Government on the Sunshine Coast, building on the successful clinic already operating at Buderim and expanding access to free urgent healthcare across our region.

“The Caloundra Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will provide fully bulk-billed care, seven days a week, for urgent but non-life-threatening conditions, giving locals another option besides waiting for a GP appointment or presenting to a busy hospital emergency department.”

Country to Coast Queensland CEO Julie Sturgess said the Caloundra Medicare UCC had been commissioned with both immediate access needs and future population growth in mind.

“Caloundra and the southern Sunshine Coast are growing rapidly, so it was important this service was planned not only for today’s demand, but for the community that will be here in the years ahead,” Ms Sturgess said.

“This is an interim location until mid‑2027, while a new purpose-built centre in Aura is built, housing not only the Medicare UCC, but a co‑located general practice, radiology and pathology.

“That kind of integrated primary care model is especially important in fast-growing communities, where people need care that is accessible, connected and close to home.”

Ms Sturgess said the clinic would complement general practice services in Caloundra.

“The Medicare UCC provides an additional option when someone needs same-day care for an urgent, non-life-threatening condition and their usual GP is not available.

“For life‑threatening emergencies, people should always call Triple Zero (000) or attend the nearest emergency department.”

Since the first clinic opened in Rockhampton in December 2023, there have been a reported combined 89,500 Medicare Urgent Care Clinic visits across Central Queensland, Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast.

Ochre Health CEO Patrick Dwyer said Ochre was proud to be delivering Medicare UCC services to the Caloundra community.

“This clinic will help bridge the gap between general practice and hospital emergency departments, ensuring patients can receive timely treatment closer to home,” Mr Dwyer said.

“In addition to our existing Medicare UCC in Buderim, this will do much to remove barriers to access while alleviating pressure on nearby hospitals.”
