Gladstone residents now have greater access to bulk-billed urgent care, with the opening of the new Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Medicare UCC) co-located at Gladstone Family Medical Centre at 7 Goondoon Street, Gladstone Central.
Funded by Country to Coast Queensland through the Australian Government’s PHN Program, the Gladstone Medicare UCC offers urgent care seven days a week from 8am to 8pm. No appointment or referral needed.
Announced today by Minister for Health and Ageing, Minister for Disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the Hon. Mark Butler MP, the ForHealth operated Gladstone Medicare UCC provides accessible, high-quality short-term care for conditions that require same-day treatment but are not immediately life threatening, such as minor fractures, sprains, infections, cuts, burns and other urgent health needs.
Country to Coast Queensland CEO Julie Sturgess said the opening of the second Central Queensland, Gladstone Medicare UCC marks an exciting milestone in expanding access to fast, high-quality health care for local communities.
“The Gladstone clinic joins a growing network of Medicare UCCs across our region including Rockhampton, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg and the newly announced Buderim clinic — helping more people get the care they need, closer to home,” Ms Sturgess said.
While Medicare UCCs aren’t equipped to treat complex trauma or emergencies, anyone experiencing a life-threatening injury or illness should always call triple zero (000) or go directly to the emergency department.
Ms Sturgess said Medicare UCCs offer a welcoming and convenient option for people needing urgent, non-life-threatening care, complementing local GPs and supporting better health outcomes across the community.
“Remember your GP remains your first point of contact for routine healthcare, chronic condition management, and preventative health services. You can find a local GP near you by visiting healthdirect’s service finder to see available appointments.”
Across the Country to Coast Queensland region, more than 65,000 residents have accessed the three established Medicare Urgent Care Clinics, with an average of 40 people seen daily in Rockhampton and 44 in both Bundaberg and Hervey Bay.
