Sunshine Coast Medicare Urgent Care Clinic opens in Buderim

Published: September 17 2025

Sunshine Coast residents now have greater access to bulk-billed urgent care, with the opening of the new Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Medicare UCC) in Buderim co-located at Ochre Medical Centre at 9 Ochre Way, Sippy Downs.

Funded by Country to Coast Queensland through the Australian Government’s PHN Program, the Buderim Medicare UCC offers urgent care seven days a week, initially from 8am-5pm, and extending to 8am-10pm from 2 February 2026 with no appointment or referral needed.

Announced today by Minister for Health and Ageing, Minister for Disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the Hon. Mark Butler MP the Buderim Medicare UCC provides accessible, high-quality short-term care for conditions that require same-day treatment, but are not immediately life-threatening for conditions such as minor fractures, sprains, infections, cuts, burns, and other urgent health needs.

Country to Coast Queensland CEO  Julie Sturgess said the Buderim Medicare UCC represents a significant step forward in improving access to timely healthcare.

“The Buderim location joins a growing network of Medicare UCCs across our region, including Hervey Bay, Bundaberg and Rockhampton, ensuring more communities have access to urgent care close to home,” Ms Sturgess said.

Ms Sturgess said it was important to know that Medicare UCCs cannot treat complex trauma nor emergencies.

“If you or a loved one has a life-threatening injury or illness, call triple zero (000) or go to the emergency department,’ said Ms Sturgess.

“Urgent Care Clinics are also not an alternative to visiting your GP, who should be your first point of contact for routine and preventative health care.

“If you don’t have a regular general practitioner, please visit healthdirect’s service finder for doctors near you with available appointments,” Ms Sturgess said.

More than 65,000 residents have accessed the three established Medicare UCCs across the Country to Coast Queensland region, with an average of 40 people seen daily in Rockhampton, and 44 in both Bundaberg and Hervey Bay.

Ochre Health, Sippy Downs practice GP/acute care doctor, Dr Anthony Vogelpoel joined the opening of the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.

“Ochre has a long and proud history of providing quality healthcare to the Sunshine Coast community. We are excited to continue this through our new Buderim Medicare Urgent Care Clinic”.
