CCQ Care Pod FAQs
Third parties contracted or commissioned by Country to Coast Queensland (CCQ) through the PHN program are required to acknowledge CCQ in all communications materials by including both funding acknowledgment text and the CCQ+PHN logo lockup.
What is the CCQ Care Pod?
The CCQ Care Pod is a purposefully designed pod to provide a safe, private space to connect to a confidential video consultation with a virtual doctor (GP).
It’s located outside the CQID office at CQUniversity Rockhampton (Building 26).
CQID Case Workers can help clients book and provide support before and after appointments. Client will need their Medicare card details to make a booking.
What can the CCQ Care Pod help with?
CCQ Care Pod may be an option for clients with minor heath concerns who are not acutely unwell such as:
- Support with identifying what health services would be of most benefit
- Minor coughs and colds
- Simple sprains and strains
- Minor skin concerns where wound care is not required
- Renewing prescription requests for regular prescribed medications (excluding drugs of dependence)
- Medical certificates
- Mental health concerns
What about ongoing care?
With client consent, a summary of the appointment can be:
- Shared with the client’s regular GP, and/or
- Uploaded to their My Health Record, helping ensure continuity of care.
CQID Case Workers can help explain these options and support clients to stay connected to their usual healthcare providers.
How is this different from the Rockhampton Hospital pilot?
This is the second time the Care Pod has been used in Central Queensland. You may have seen or used it outside Rockhampton Hospital earlier this year, when it was trialled as a way to ease pressure on the emergency department.
That trial was very successful, with over 80% of patients saying they were happy with their experience. You can learn more about that earlier project here.

Know your local care options
Even if the CCQ Care Pod isn’t right for you today, there are other ways to access the right care at the right time — without needing to go to the emergency department.
Not sure if you need a doctor? The healthdirect online Symptom Checker can help you decide what to do next. It can also find local healthcare providers near you and give location details, opening hours, and in some cases will tell you the next available appointment.
If a GP appointment isn’t available and you need urgent care (but it’s not an emergency), you still have options:
