Disaster Resilience

Our region faces frequent climate-related events — from floods and storms to heatwaves, bushfires and cyclones. Many people are more exposed to health risks due to chronic illness, mental health needs and workforce shortages. At the same time, our communities bring great strengths: First Nations knowledge, strong local networks and the resourcefulness of people working together.

Our role goes beyond response. We partner with health professionals, ACCHOs, councils, emergency services, aged care homes and community organisations to build resilience before, during and after disasters. We strengthen primary care’s role in disaster management and help communities access the resources and relationships they need to adapt and recover.

Disaster Resilience Plan 2024–2025

Our Disaster Resilience Plan sets priorities, actions and measures of success for strengthening resilience across the region. It highlights initiatives like Resilient CARE, Flood Wellbeing and Recovery Grants and partnerships that embed primary care in disaster management.
