Bundaberg outreach service highlights value of mobile primary care

Country to Coast Queensland’s time-limited Bundaberg Mobile Health Service has shown how flexible, community-based primary care can support people during disaster recovery.

Operating from 14 to 27 March 2026, the service helped bring care closer to residents affected by flooding, including people experiencing homelessness or displacement who may face greater barriers to accessing traditional clinic-based care.

Delivered with local health and community partners, the outreach response supported earlier clinical intervention, continuity of treatment and reconnection to ongoing services.

The level of need identified through the service also points to a broader opportunity for outreach primary care models to play a stronger role not only in recovery, but in ongoing service design for communities facing persistent barriers to care.

Thank you to our partners

CCQ delivered this service through strong local collaboration with the Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works (including the HOME outreach team), Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service, Wide Bay Zero, ForHealth, 1300MEDICS, Bundaberg Central Medical Centre (ForHealth), Regional Housing Ltd, Australian Red Cross and other community organisations supporting people experiencing homelessness.

Building on Wide Bay Zero

This work also builds on CCQ’s delivery of Wide Bay Zero in partnership with IFYS, localising the national Advance to Zero initiative.
