MyMedicare March updates – keeping practices informed

MyMedicare supports continuity of care with a patient’s regular practice, while still allowing patients to attend any practice for immediate or unplanned care when needed.

For ongoing and planned care, such as chronic condition management plans and reviews, patients should return to their MyMedicare registered practice to support more coordinated care.

Practices can continue to see any patient, regardless of whether they are registered in MyMedicare.

While patients can seek urgent or same-day care anywhere, MyMedicare is designed to strengthen continuity of care by supporting patients to return to their regular practice for ongoing and planned care.

Practices should remind patients that chronic condition management, care plans and reviews should be provided through their MyMedicare registered practice.

Patients who choose not to register can still access care as usual.

Practices should also ensure patients provide informed consent before being registered for MyMedicare, and help patients understand the benefits of registration for both their care and practice coordination.

MyMedicare’s Patient Privacy Notice has recently been updated to better explain how personal information is collected, used and securely shared across Services Australia.

The updated Privacy Notice is available on the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing website and through Services Australia.
