Both residents and visitors to the Sunshine Coast and Gympie region are being urged to make use of free online tools to help them find the right medical attention over these school holidays.
Sunshine Coast GP, Dr Jon Harper said that many people were unsure of where to go for help accessing medical services, especially for non-urgent issues.
“An otherwise healthy adult with a non-urgent symptom such as stomach pain and diarrhoea or a sprained ankle can visit RightPlaceRightTime.com.au rather than going straight to the hospital Emergency Department.”
“The first thing you can do is step through your symptoms online, this will give you an idea of how serious your condition is and how soon you should seek help. You can also speak to a health professional, or find a local doctor who is open when you need them.”
Dr Harper said some symptoms should always be treated as a medical emergency.
“If you do have symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, or severe injuries, you should certainly call 000 or attend the emergency department,” Dr Harper said.
Robb Major, Senior Manager for CCQ said that even a minor injury or illness could cause a lot of additional stress during the holiday periods.
“As a parent I know that our family is definitely outside of the usual routine during the holidays and this creates a lot of additional stress for even a minor injury or illness.”
“Waiting in an Emergency Department is the last place I want to be during the holidays and that is why we do a quick check online with Right Place Right Time before rushing to any decision.”
“It’s a one stop shop that helps you make the most right choice about the medical care you or a loved one should receive.”
“We have a great medical system on the Sunshine Coast, with a wide range of options outside of our hospitals,” Mr Major said.
