Head to Health is currently a phone support service across the Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay and Central Queensland regions, but will soon work in partnership with four Medicare Mental Health centres planned for the Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Gladstone and Rockhampton. The new centres will offer free, confidental, face-to-face assessment with qualified mental health professionals who will provide on-the-spot advice and guidance about the next step.

There is no cost for using the Head to Health central 1800 595 212 intake, advice and referral service. Services recommended for you are also usually free or low-cost, though this will depend on what is available in your region.

Sometimes finding the support you need can seem overwhelming. Rather than jumping straight into a service that might not suit you, it can be helpful to talk to someone who can guide you to the right service for support.

When you call Head to Health you will receive  a comprehensive triage by a registered Mental Health professional in the Head to Health Intake service to assess your  needs. A package of services will be recommended to you and the Head to Health staff will facilitate access to the most appropriate care provider.

With your consent, any advice and plans recommended to you can be shared with your GP or other health care providers. You can also ask for these not to be shared with your current health providers, if you wish. It is recommended that you discuss any support you’ve received from Head to Health, as coordinating your care and reducing duplication is in your best interests.

Yes. If you are already seeing a psychologist – or another relevant mental health professional – please advise us so the best types of services can be identified to meet your support needs. That way you can be assured there will be no duplication in the treatment and services you access.
