GPACI MBS User Guide — Updated

Page 1 screenshot user guideThe latest MBS User Guide for GPACI is available to help streamline care delivery and MBS billing:

  • Download the guide and select from the Sample Schedule (pg. 3–8) and Example Billing Scenarios (pg. 11–15) that best suit your practice to access a 2-page guide that will simplify GPACI MBS billing for you.
  • Updates include the removal of:
    • References to Aboriginal Health Workers and clarification that only Aboriginal Health Practitioners and Practice Nurses are eligible to claim MBS Item 10997.
    • MBS Item number 10987, as this item is only billable following a 715 health check, which cannot be billed for residents of an aged care home.

GPACI Success Stories

Over 2,200 practices have enrolled 62,000 aged care residents in GPACI in the first quarter (to 30 September 2024).

  • Prestantia Health’s webinar series for general practice, staff of aged care homes, and residents and carers has included conversations on successful implementation of the incentive.

Chronic Conditions MBS Item Changes

The start date for Chronic Conditions Management MBS changes is deferred to 1 July 2025 (from 1 November 2024) to allow more time for readiness.

MyMedicare Registration Update

Registrations as of 6 Nov 2024 reporting 2.1M patients, 6,329 practices, and 47,000 providers.

    • Online registration for children — starting 9 Dec 2024, children under 14 can be registered online via Medicare Online or the Express Plus App (if on the same Medicare card as parents/guardians).
    • Resources for MyMedicare general practices and healthcare providers will help you engage your patients, including social media tiles, videos, brochures and posters.

Services Australia: Changes to Organisation Register

A system release for the Organisation Register will introduce the following changes, effective 9 Dec 2024:

  1. New Practice type field:
    • It will be mandatory for all new practices registering in MyMedicare to select a ‘type’ during registration. Options will include:
      • General Practice
      • Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service
      • Aboriginal Medical Service
      • Mobile Practice
      • Outreach Practice
      • Sole Provider Practice
      • Nurse Practitioner-led Practice with a GP
    • It is strongly recommended that already registered practices also update the practice type in the Organisation Register.
  2. Accreditation updates:
    • From December, accreditation details will determine MyMedicare eligibility. Ensure your practice information is updated by 31 March 2025 to maintain eligibility.
      • If practices receive a renewal or new certificate, they should add a new line entry rather than editing existing details, unless correcting errors. Practices working toward accreditation are unaffected, but those accredited within the 12-month period must update their status.
    • Accreditation exemptions are available for mobile/outreach practices until 30 June 2025.
