New suicide prevention training for GPs to be held in Gympie

In Sunshine Coast by PHN Communications

CCQ have been announced as one of the twelve National Suicide Prevention Trial sites, bringing significant resources, activity and funding to areas of need in the region.

The trial will utilise the Black Dog Institute’s LifeSpan model which is a systems-based approach to the delivery of suicide prevention services, targeting at-risk populations identified at a local level through existing needs assessments and an audit completed by the Black Dog Institute.

To find out more about LifeSpan and the nine strategies, please visit https://blackdoginstitute.org.au/research/lifespan/lifespan-strategies-and-components.

Suicide Prevention strategies and activities are being implemented across our Central Queensland, Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast areas, however the main community hubs for the Trial Site activity are: Gympie, Maryborough, Eidsvold, Mount Perry, Biggenden, Gayndah, Monto and Mundubbera.

For the CQWBSC PHN region, target groups were selected based on a needs assessment across these areas. The targets include:

  • Adult Males (30-59 years)
  • Unemployed Adult Males
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Males

CQWBSC PHN are pleased to offer a workshop in Advanced Training in Suicide prevention (facilitated by the Black Dog Institute) in Gympie on Saturday October 20.
