University of Sydney and BreastScreen Sunshine Coast Breast Density Trial

In Central Queensland, News, Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay by PHN Communications

Breast Screen Sunshine Coast has commenced a randomised controlled trial in conjunction with The University of Sydney, BSQ and the BSQ Sunshine Coast service. This is the first research in the world to test the immediate and ongoing impacts of breast density notification on women and the health service in a currently unnotified population-based screening program. It will help inform current and future policy and practice in this area to ensure the best outcomes for women.

The findings will determine if the benefits of breast density notification outweigh the potential risks, which will help to inform future policies on this topic. So, how does this affect you?

Clients enrolled in the study trial and their GPs may receive additional information with their usual Breast screen results informing them of their breast density.

This may lead to increased questions from your patients.  The Principal Investigator Dr Lisa Hammerton lisa.poh@health.qld.gov.au or contact nurses-breastscreen-sunshinecoast@health.qld.gov.au  to coordinate a Teams meeting for a clinical nurse consultation about the study.
