It is vital that services exist to help support the health of health professionals. In the same way that doctors and nurses have specific services available such as Doctors Health Advisory Services and the Nursing and Midwifery Support Line there is a support service for pharmacists.
The Pharmacists’ Support Service (PSS) provides a helpline to support all Australian pharmacists, pharmacy interns and pharmacy students at times when they are distressed and needing to talk to someone who understands pharmacy.
Support is provided over the telephone by trained volunteers who are all pharmacists or retired pharmacists. Callers can remain anonymous and the service is confidential.
The service can be reached every day of the year between 8am and 11pm by calling 1300 244 910.
The Pharmacists’ Support Service (PSS) is a not for profit charity and their work is funded by donations from the pharmacy profession. There are no fees for using the service, apart form the cost of the telephone call. For more information about the services available to support pharmacists you can visit the PSS website here.
