Learning Outcomes

Discuss and respond to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, with reference to culture, local history and socioeconomic factors that impact health outcomes.
Describe and define the terms ‘cultural awareness’, ‘cultural competency’ and ‘cultural safety’ and identify key differences.
Identify barriers and enablers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing mainstream health services.
Interpret specific programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in primary care.
Demonstrate and discuss quality improvements that can be implemented in your workplace to create a culturally safe place.
