Novel coronavirus

There has been an outbreak of a novel (new) coronavirus (2019-nCoV) originating in Wuhan, China.

Queensland Health asks you consider novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection in patients with fever and respiratory symptoms who recently travelled to anywhere in China, and investigate patients using standard practices.

Contact your Public Health Unit for advice on suspected cases including diagnostic testing and specimen collection.

Face masks

The Department of Health has made the national stockpile of face masks available to general practices as needed.

CCQ now has a limited supply of masks to distribute to practices with a demonstrated need i.e.:

  • where there is no local supply available commercially; or
  • where there is no local supply available from a State or Territory government scheme; and
  • where practices have a population which may be more likely to have been exposed to the novel coronavirus; and/or
  • have unusual numbers of patients presenting with respiratory symptoms.

If your practice falls into these categories and you cannot source masks via the channels advised above, please contact Robb Major on info@ourphn.org.au.

For further information on the use of masks when seeing patients with suspected coronavirus, please see the RACGP information page.
