Learning Outcomes
- Discuss and respond to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, with reference to culture, local history and socioeconomic factors that impact health outcomes.
- Describe and define the terms ‘cultural awareness’, ‘cultural competency’ and ‘cultural safety’ and identify key differences.
- Identify barriers and enablers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing mainstream health services.
- Interpret specific programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in primary care.
- Demonstrate and discuss quality improvements that can be implemented in your workplace to create a culturally safe place.
