This Infections in Pregnancy module provides an important update for GPs on
congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) and syphilis, both of which can have
devastating consequences for the developing baby. CMV is the most common congenital infection resulting in childhood disability in Australia, yet less than 20% of Australian GPs are confident in providing advice on CMV in pregnancy⁽¹⁾. Syphilis notifications in women of childbearing age have quadrupled between 2015 and 2020⁽²⁾. Untreated syphilis leads to adverse pregnancy outcomes in about 50% of affected pregnancies⁽³⁾⁽⁴⁾.

Return to Work and Rehabilitation strategies – how the OEP will optimise the process. Presented by Dr Chris Cunneen
Synopsis
This presentation will explore the role of occupational and environmental physicians in helping to ensure a safe return to work for those who have suffered an injury. It will cover strategies that can be used by these physicians to optimize the process, such as assessing physical and mental health, determining necessary accommodations or modifications needed for job duties, providing advice on how best to manage stress levels during recovery, and ensuring adequate support from employers. Additionally, this article will discuss how these strategies can help individuals get back into work more quickly while reducing long-term disability costs associated with prolonged absences from work. Finally, it will provide tips on what GPs, allied health and employers should consider when implementing return-to-work programs. This presentation aims to provide viewers with an understanding of the importance of rehabilitation strategies and how occupational & environmental physicians can optimise the process so that injured workers can safely return to their jobs sooner rather than later.
Outcome
- Understand the role of Occupational & Environmental Physicians in Return-to-Work Rehabilitation Strategies
- Understand the importance of Assessing Physical and Mental Health
- Determine necessary accommodations or modifications needed for Job Duties
- Provide advice on How to Manage Stress Levels During Recovery
- Benefits of Optimizing the Process with Occupational & Environmental Physicians

Event description: This 6-part free series aims to deliver health professionals working in paediatrics the knowledge and tools to increase their skills and confidence in raising the topic of weight with children and their families. It will also provide resources and effective ways to support children and families to build better health and lifestyle habits together. When: Thursday 12th October through to 16 November 2023 from 8:00 to 9:00am. What is Project ECHO® and how does it work? Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is an interactive knowledge sharing model, with a focus on peer-to-peer learning, collaborative problem solving and teaching. Via an online platform ECHO® opens the channels for participants throughout Queensland to evidence-based learnings and knowledge from a panel of topic experts and multi-disciplinary peers. Each week participants log in to a Zoom session which consists of a short presentation from a panel expert, with a question time. A case is then presented by a participant followed by an interactive discussion led by the panel facilitator.
