  • Discuss and respond to Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander history, with reference to culture, local history and socioeconomic factors that impact health outcomes.
  • Describe and define the terms ‘cultural awareness’, ‘cultural competency’ and ‘cultural safety’ and identify key differences.
  • Identify barriers and enablers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing mainstream health services.
  • Interpret specific programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander patients in primary care.
  • Demonstrate and discuss quality improvements that can be implemented in your workplace to create a culturally safe place.
